Chief designer for Audi, Wolfgang Egger, will leave the company to work for VW-owned Italdesign Giugiaro, according to industry media reports

Audi design boss Wolfgang Egger could be about to leave the company to work at Italdesign Giugiaro, according to  media reports.

German industry magazine Automobilwoche is reporting that Egger will leave Audi to work for the Turin-based design house, which is a subsiduary of the VW Group. 

Egger, who has been head of design for the Audi and Lamborghini brands since 2007, will likely be succeeded by Marc Lichte, whose design credits include the current Mk7 Volkswagen Golf. Egger has previously held positions with Alfa Romeo and Lancia.

The move follows the announcement that another Audi designer, Achim Badstübner, will leave the brand to join Mercedes-Benz in the new year.

Arumn Audi spokesman told Autocar: "We do not comment on speculation or conjecture about individuals."

Italdesign Giugiaro was bought by the VW Group in 2010, with its recent creations including the Lamborghini Gallardo-based Parcour 4x4
