But no UK models are affected by stability issue

Toyota has announced a global recall of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 models following a reported fault with its vehicle stability control system.

However, the recall only affects left-hand drive models and no right-hand drive Toyota Land Cruiser models sold in the UK fall are affected by the recall.

US magazine Consumer Reports gave the Lexus GX460, a car not sold in the UK, its ‘Do Not Buy’ rating after it discovered the car’s rear end “slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control”.

The GX460 is based on the Land Cruiser, but UK models are not affected because right-hand drive models have a different weight distribution.

Reacting to the recall in the US, Lexus’s group vice-president and brand manager Mark Templin said, “From the moment we heard about this issue, Lexus and our dealers acted quickly to resolve the situation.

“Our dealers will now personally reach out to customers to set up appointments to make this modification. Lexus has always been about providing exemplary customer satisfaction and this will be another opportunity to demonstrate that.”
