Fastest ever Ford hopes to beat official economy figures by 15 per cent over 360 miles

Ford is entering its fastest ever European production car in the UK’s annual MPG marathon later this month.

The 300bhp Focus RS will take part in the 360-mile course in Warwickshire on 30 September and 1 October and will aim to beat the car’s claimed combined fuel economy figure by 15 per cent.

The official figure is 30.1 mpg, but the competitors are aiming to return 35mpg over the course of the route. It will be entered in class for cars with CO2 emissions of 160g/km plus and it will be piloted by Jeremy Walton and Alyson Marlow.

David Calder, Ford's medium car product manager, said: “We launched the latest Ford Focus RS not only as the ultimate front-wheel drive performance car but also as a car you can live with every day, and wish Jeremy and Alyson a smooth and safe journey as they prove this out.”
