Aston Martin’s CEO Ulrich Bez will stay on as the company’s CEO until 2016, overseeing a transformation within the company’s management structure.
Bez will eventually adopt a patriarchal role within the company – he had been due to step down as CEO in 2012, but Aston shareholders have convinced him to stay on.
Speaking at the Geneva motor show, Bez confirmed there would be 40 special edition DBS models – 20 coupes and 20 convertibles – known as DBS UB2010 to mark his 10 years in charge at the company. He said Astons would remain as “cars for the heart” and dismissed suggestions that the new Cygnet was not in the spirit of the brand.
“I believe there is a need for a luxurious car that's fun to drive and to be seen in,” he said. “Cygnet is a car with Aston style, design and craftsmanship, for people who think it's not always practical or appropriate to drive around in a sports car. It will have lots of feel good factor."
He said the new four-door Rapide would be a car to attract younger customers to the brand and 1000 units had already been sold. Bez also said the firm had sold 55 One-77 models and test drives would be available from April.
