BMW and PSA Peugeot-Citroen have announced they will collaborate on purchasing, developing and producing hybrid powertrain components for front-drive vehicles.
The two firms, which already share engines across Mini, Peugeot and Citroen vehicles, will achieve significant cost savings from the deal and will allow for standardisation of key components needed in hybrids. The specifics over the deal – such as whether it covered stop-start technology – were not disclosed, however.
The BMW-PSA technology will appear on BMW’s new front-drive model, as well as Minis, Peugeots and Citroens.

"Combining both partners' expertise in hybrid technologies will clearly create a competitive advantage," said PSA in a joint BMW-PSA statement.
“This cooperation will deliver a major contribution toward a competitive cost structure in the field of electrification,” added BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer. “It also represents another important step on the road to sustainable mobility.”
Earlier this year the two firms revealed plans to co-develop a next-generation of four-cylinder petrol engines together to meet EU6 emissions regulations.
