Brilliance pulls out of Europe following a lukewarm reception to its two models

Chinese car maker Brilliance has halted European exports of its BS4 and BS6 saloons in the wake of a lukewarm reception to the two models.

Two unnamed company executives told Reuters that the firm's difficulty in meeting continually evolving European emissions regulations was also a factor in stopping exports.

"We have stopped exports to Europe," said one executive. "For now, we have no timetable for resuming the business." The executive indicated that the firm may return to Europe when its engines are made Euro 5 compliant.

Between 2007 and 2009, Brilliance sold just 502 BS4s and BS6s across Europe, according to industry analyst Jato Dynamics.

Brilliance is BMW's partner in China.
