Fiat is poised to begin the process of taking over sales and servicing of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep cars in 11 European countries, including the UK, according to a report.
The two-year process will begin in Italy next month and will involve 400 Chrysler employees moving over to Fiat’s side of the business. Fiat acquired a 20 per cent controlling stake in Chrysler last summer when the US firm went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Germany, Italy, the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland are the countries where the transition will take place, according to the report on Auto News.
The report also claims that Fiat is in the process of taking over some logistical operations from Chrysler’s former partner Daimler, including financing and parts distribution.
Chrysler has refused to comment on the reports, saying that it would not be announcing anything ahead of an official Fiat announcement on 21 April. Fiat was unavailable for comment.
