Car maker denies reports that it will create a low-cost trim option

Ford is not planning to launch a new budget trim level across its range, senior officials have told Autocar.

Reports had suggested the car maker was planning to counteract a series of damaging price rises due to fluctuating exchange rates by introducing new trim levels.

On average Ford prices have increased 9 per cent in the past year – well ahead of inflation. Prices of some models actually increased by over 30 per cent.

Last week Vauxhall introduced Expression and ES trim levels which undercut existing models by more than £3500.
