Citroen is looking at raiding its past for more inspiration for future models following the success of the revival of the DS badge.
The firm is examining the possibility of reusing the ID name, the badge used on the cheaper DS with a manual transmission, launched in 1955.
The French firm isn’t yet sure how it will apply the badge to future products, but insiders have confirmed ID is under consideration, although it could be some time before we see the results.
Company insiders also say the 1972 Citroen SM, the joint venture with Maserati that used a V8 motor, is a “rich mine”, although any inspiration is likely to be used for future design details rather than the name or its high-end concept.
