Scot takes second Indy 500 win; Wheldon takes second

Dario Franchitti has won the Indy 500, the second time in his career that he has won the self-procalimed 'world's greatest motor race'.

Franchitti was the fastest man throughout the race, leading the vast majority of laps and heading the field by a margin of up to 10s at times.

Dan Wheldon finished in second place, capping a fine day for British motorsport after a strong drive through the field.

Another Brit Alex Lloyd had been set to take a remarkable third place, but he was later dropped to fourth after being adjudged to have overtaken Michael Andretti just after the yellow flags flew.

The caution flags were shown after British driver Mike Conway, who had led the race late on after running an alternative fuel strategy, rode over the back of Ryan Hunter-Reay's car and flew into the fencing. The back end of Conway's car was ripped off before it crashed back down onto the track.

The other British driver in the race, Justin Wilson, took seventh after a strong run that included a race-leading stint.
