The Dodge Journey MPV is to be given a new life as a Fiat in Europe. As part of Fiat-Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne’s merging of the two car-makers, the 2011 Journey will be rebranded the ‘Fiat Freemont’, and sold through Fiat dealerships, after an unveiling at the Geneva motor show in March. The Freemont will become the first rebadged Chrysler/Dodge to get a Fiat engine: the 168bhp 2.0-litre JTDM unit, in place of the Journey’s VW-sourced diesel motor. It’s hoped that the new engine, plus Chrysler’s 2011-model-year refresh on the car, as well as wider availability throughout Fiat’s European dealer network, will boost sales of the car.The Freemont will also serve as a replacement for Fiat’s Ulysee MPV, which has just gone out of production.
