Ford has confirmed the European engine line-up for its all-new Focus range, which will reach showrooms early next year. It will include a new turbocharged 1.6-litre Ecoboost petrol unit, available in 148bhp and 178bhp guises.
In 178bhp form it can take the five-door Focus to 62mph in 7.9sec, while also returning 47mpg and with 139g/km CO2 emissions. The normally aspirated 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine continues in the new range, in 104bhp and 123bhp forms.

Diesel options will be updated 1.6-litre units, with 94bhp and 113bhp, and a re-engineered 2.0-litre unit that’s available with 113bhp, 138bhp or 161bhp. Stop-start is being phased into the range, too; all 1.6-litre models, petrol or diesel, will have the system as standard.
A 247bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ecoboost engine will power the new ST, a engine which also offers a 20 per cent improvement in economy and emissions over the outgoing ST's five-pot.
Ford has also confirmed it does not plan to launch a three-door or coupé-convertible version of the new Focus.
