Ford has added its new turbocharged 1.6-litre Ecoboost petrol engine to its revised Mondeo range.
The engine produces 158bhp and delivers 15 per cent better fuel economy than the 2.0-litre 143bhp petrol version already in the range.
Ford claims an economy figure of 41mpg and 158g/km CO2, giving the new engine an extended range of up to 100 miles on a full tank over the 2.0 petrol unit.
Coupled with a six speed manual gearbox, the 1.6 Ecoboost engine helps produce a top speed of 134mph and 0-60mph time of 9.3sec.
The new engine is also available on Ford's C-Max range, and will be available on the S-Max and Galaxy.
On sale now, prices for the Ford Mondeo 1.6 EcoBoost start from £18,945.
