Mercedes has announced its most fuel-efficient car yet. The Mercedes A180 CDI BlueEfficiency records CO2 emissions of 92g/km and a claimed 78mpg.
These figures, significantly improved over the standard A180 CDI on which it is based, are as a result of a host of aerodynamic changes — including aerodynamically shaped spring link coverings, lower suspension and partial covering of the radiator grille.
A revised transmission now gives longer gear ratios, and the engine management system has been altered.
Mercedes has also announced an efficiency-focused petrol version. The A180 BlueEfficiency claims 120g/km and 54mpg.
Mercedes says there are no immediate plans to bring either Mercedes-Benz A-Class variants to the UK. The models will go on sale in Europe on 1 February.
