Last year’s winner, the Honda Civic Type R, took the award by a considerable margin, so this year’s competitors will be keen to accrue as many votes as possible.

What Car? editor Steve Huntingford said: “It’s great to see the sensational line-up of cars readers have to choose from this year, with it proving new car buyers will be spoiled for choice in 2018.

“The Reader Award is a particularly significant one for both manufacturers and the car buyers looking for their next vehicle because the public determines the winner. The highly sought-after prize offers a good indication of the potential success new cars might have in the coming year.”
