Ford's 'EcoBoost' engine has won the International Engine of the Year award for the second year in a row. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which was designed in the UK, achieved the highest score in the 15-year history of the awards. Ford is set to double production of the engine to meet demand.

The new Alfa Romeo 4C sports car is set to be seen in action by the public for the very first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The exclusive 'Launch Edition' will also be showcased, as well as taking to the famous hill climb course.

Hyundai has delivered the first 15 hydrogen-powered fuel cell-equipped ix35s. They were reputed to be the world's first assembly line-produced hydrogen-powered cars. The vehicles will be used in the municipal fleet in Copenhagen to support the city's 'carbon-neutral' aim.

Opel is now offering its new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol 'SIDI' - Spark Ignition Direct Injection - engine in the Astra GTC. It delivers 168bhp and 206lb ft, while average fuel consumption is rated at 46mpg. It's likely that this engine will join Vauxhall's line-up later in the year.
