Official BMW teaser pics show a 1-series M Coupe still under wraps in Paris

BMW has released these teaser pictures of its new 1-series M Coupe in Paris.

The BMW 1-series M Coupe had at one-time been expected to be launched at the show last week, but instead BMW will official reveal what’s being regarded as the spiritual successor to the original BMW M3 in full at next year’s Detroit motor show.

The teaser images reveal the partially covered car’s wider tracks and lower ride height. Large M division alloy wheels equipped with Michelin tyres fill its bulging wheel arches.

The pictures also reveal the car’s quad exhaust pipes and new diffuser at the rear, as well as its revised front styling including a new front bumper and air intakes. The front headlights are still disguised with tape, however.

It will be powered by a lightly modified version of the twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six from the Z4 sDrive35iS.

The M Coupe will boast somewhere in the region of 350bhp in production guise — around 50bhp more than the 135i upon which it is based.

Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Transferring drive to the road is a lightly tweaked version of the M3’s M differential.
