Facelifted seven-seat MPV gets revised styling and an improved engine range

Volkswagen has given its seven-seat Touran MPV a subtle mid-life facelift to bring its styling in line with the latest Golf, Polo, Sharan and Touareg models.

Changes include a new grille, bumper and headlights at the front and LED lights at the rear alongside a new bumper and tailgate. New alloy wheels and side-mounted chrome-edged rubbing strips complete the exterior changes.

Interior changes include a new steering wheel and centre console, as well as new backlighting for the dials and a larger electronic display.

The third row of the seats in the boot can be folded flat to offer 695 litres of luggage capacity; with the centre row folded, this increases to 1913 litres. VW says there is a total of 39 storage components housed within the car.

The engine range consists of two petrols and two diesels: the 104bhp 1.2 TSI engine replaces the ageing 1.6 and becomes the entry-level unit and the 1.4 TSI engine is available with either 138bhp.

In the diesel range, 1.9 TDI engine is replaced by the 1.6 TDI unit with either 89bhp or 104bhp. With the latter output, the engine can be specified with VW’s Bluemotion Technology trim level which comes equipped with stop-start and allows the Touran to return 61.4mpg.

The 2.0 TDI engine is available with either 138bhp or 168bhp. New technology on the latest Touran includes a park assist system which can park the car in but parallel and end-on spaces.

Sales start in September, with the car likely to be priced from around £17,000. The first deliveries start this October.
