Bluemotion Technology added to Scirocco 2.0 TDI models to boost economy to 62.8mpg

Volkswagen has added eco ‘Bluemotion Technology’ tweaks to its Scirocco 2.0 TDI to improve economy to 62.8mpg and cut CO2 emissions to 118g/km.

All Scirocco models equipped with the 138bhp oil-burner will now get the improvements as standard, which include stop-start and battery regeneration systems. Before the changes, economy was rated at 55.4mpg and CO2 at 134g/km on models equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The modifications are also available on 138bhp 2.0 TDI Sciroccos equipped with the six-speed DSG gearbox. Economy improves from 51.4mpg to 57.6mpg and CO2 drops from 145g/km to 129g/km.

VW has also revealed changes to the 168bhp version of the 2.0 TDI engine in the Scirocco GT, which improves economy from 53.3mpg to 54.4mpg and drops CO2 from 139g/km to 134g/km in six-speed manual cars.

The Passat CC is another VW model to benefit from Bluemotion Technology and stop-start and regenerative braking will be added to all diesel models as standard.

In 138bhp 2.0 TDI six-speed manual models, economy is boosted from 50.4mpg to 60.1mpg and CO2 cut from 146g/km to 125g/km.
